They said it would bring
peace and release
looking within
facing the demons
that blanket my heart
but all I found
in that mirror
was a stranger
trapped inside
she started crying when
I did not recognize
despite the guilt
I could not set her free
a part of me
I didn’t know
but couldn’t let go.
